Who is Bailey the Chief Therapy Dog?

Bailey is a 5-year-old Golden Retriever. He was born in Sydney Australia and moved to Melbourne, Victoria as a 9-week-old puppy. His owner and handler, Mel (Therapy Animals Australia PAWS Director) made the drive, with her family, from Melbourne to Sydney to fetch him.

Bailey was trained within the Therapy Animals Australia therapy dog training program. This program trains and accredits therapy dogs in accordance with the Service Animals Australia Essential Standards for Therapy Dogs. Bailey was a model student, and it didn’t take long before he was working alongside his handler across schools and workplaces in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Bailey is now the top dog at Therapy Animals Australia and has the role of Leading Therapy Dog. Bailey (along with his handler) heads up both the Therapy Animals Australia PAWS at Work program as well as the PAWS in Schools program. Bailey has a team of therapy dogs working under his leadership.

Bailey is an advocate for the overall well-being of staff, employees and students in workplaces and across educational settings. It is with great honour that The Speaker of The Australian House of Representatives, Hon Milton Dick MP, bestowed the title of Chief Therapy Dog on Bailey. We appreciate this gesture and unique way of promoting the great work done by therapy dogs and their handlers.
