Therapy Animals Australia was established by a team of highly experienced teachers and animal behaviour experts.

Dr. Brad Rundle

Founder, Director and Head Trainer.

Brad Rundle Head Dog Trainer

Dr. Brad Rundle (Ph.D in Zoology & Genetics) is an expert in understanding and modifying animal behaviour. He is a highly experienced educator and qualified teacher who specialises in tailoring and planning effective and individualised programs that best match the needs of the individual.

  • Brad is a well regarded animal behaviouralist and dog trainer with extensive experience in; behaviour modification, specific task training, obedience, foundation training and puppy development.
  • He has trained therapy dogs and planned effective programs facilitating their integration across a variety of specilised settings.
  • He is also an educator who has worked at both the secondary and tertiary levels for many years.
  • He was a finalist for the 2009 Eureka Prize for Science Teaching and more recently winner of the 2016 Teacher Tall Poppies Award for Innovative Science Teaching.

Mrs. Melanie Rundle

Melanie Rundle - PAWS in Schools Educator

Mel is a highly skilled and experienced educator who specialises in Junior School education. She is passionate about improving the overall well-being of students. She is an expert in fostering positive learning environments and adapting classroom programs to cater for differing ability levels, strengths and specific individual needs.

  • Mel is a sought after consultant and expert in developing individualised programs to enhance wellbeing including social and emotional learning.
  • She has extensive experience in using intervention strategies to aid and support learners in an engaging and creative manner.
  • She is a qualified Sounds Write practitioner and has training in Cued Articulation, Smart Spelling and Thrass.
  • She developed the unique Therapy Animals Australia PAWS Model that focuses on the effective use of therapy dogs and animal assisted learning within a whole-school wellbeing framework.
  • She understands the importance of taking the time to understand the unique needs and strengths of each student she works with.
  • She is registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
  • She is experienced in supporting students with a range of special needs and is highly skilled in nurturing individual strengths through creative and innovative strategies to motivate learners and facilitate their progress with minimal stress levels.

Tailored Programs 

At Therapy Animals Australia we specialise in tailoring training programs that best meet your individual needs & circumstances. Our highly experienced team use our trained Therapy dogs in accordance with the PAWS Model across a variety of settings.

Extensive Training Programs

Our therapy dogs complete an extensive training program and are formally assessed to ensure they meet the Service Animals Australia Essential Standards for Therapy Dogs.   

Therapy Animals Australia also specialise in teaching people how to train and effectively use a Therapy dog to support individuals within their workplace, facility, or educational setting.

A well-trained, confident and happy Therapy Dog can be an invaluable resource for supporting the social and emotional needs of individuals, as well as fostering a sense of community spirit and overall wellbeing. Therapy Animals Australia also specialise in teaching people how to train and effectively use a Therapy Dog to support individuals within their workplace, facility, or educational setting.  

We can assist clients who want to incorporate a Therapy Dog into their workplace or facility including a primary or secondary school, kindergarten, aged care facility or private specialist therapy centre such as a psychiatrist, psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists etc. 

We also offer general dog training in Melbourne for groups and individuals.

Services Overview

We aim to improve mental health & wellbeing for individuals across a variety of settings

We train Therapy Dogs to foster overall wellbeing as well provide emotional support, companionship and relief from symptoms related to mental and physical disabilities/ illnesses.

By specially training Therapy Dogs for the school environment and using a selection of other animals within our programs, we aim to improve the overall wellbeing of students. For people of all ages, from Foundation to Year 12 and Undergraduate University Courses.

Catering for all workplaces, we offer Interactive visits from our Therapy Dog and handler teams, improving staff morale and connectedness. With three programs available; Therapy Dog Visits, Training & Incorporating Onsite Therapy Dog or Specialised presentations and workshops.

We offer Dog obedience training for everyone… feel free to join a group or have your own private class.

Therapy Animals Australia specialise in implementing Therapy Dog programs that meet the Service Animals Australia Essential Standards for Therapy Dogs alongside the specific needs of each individual setting.

The team at Therapy Animals Australia highly value the positive impact that animals can have on enhancing people’s lives. To this end, we provide practical support and financial sponsorship to Service Animals Australia by training alongside this organisation.

Service Animals Australia is a registered charity that was established to support people to train a service dog.

All proceeds from our general obedience sessions, along with the sales from items such as dog food, treats, vests, and training equipment all go directly to Service Animals Australia. Service dogs improve the quality of life for their handlers by performing specific tasks that directly assist them with a disability and/or mental illness.
